Major Arcana Gallery

Major Arcana Gallery
I’ve made a gallery of all the Majors, apart from the Universe.
I am going to do a Minor Gallery at some point too.
Still working on getting things ready for release. Things always take longer than you expect, and 2016 has been a challenging year.

“As a culture we are in love with the idea of Death, and it feeds our creativity and desires. We intuit that Death is the true goal of life, the great release that we secretly long for. The Death drive is Thanatos, the will to die, the complement of Eros, the will to live. It can also be interpreted as the missing other, the black hole at the heart of the human psyche that we always long to fill, but never can. It is the wound of being born which we hope death will heal. Pain from this wound is the root cause of all reckless and self destructive behaviour, and paradoxically also the source of our greatest creativity and evolution. Awareness of our own mortality is the unique quality of human consciousness.”

Justice © Sarah Wheatley 2015
An excerpt from my book about this card, which of course is the Libra card. Happy Super moon Eclipse!
“Lilith is derived from the Mesopotamian word Lilitu or spirit, and she appears in myth of Inanna as a resident of the Huluppu tree. Like the owl she builds her home inside a tree. The owl is has the ability to see in the dark and so is a symbol of occult wisdom and a guardian of the gateway into the Akashic realm or collective unconscious. It is a totem of the underworld, and a symbol of death, but also has the wings of spirit which lift it into the spiritual heights. The bird goddess is also a snake goddess and her origins are Neolithic. She is the original all powerful female deity who represents the entire continuum of life, death and rebirth.
Lilith is associated with the serpent and appears in the bible as the original partner of Adam who is unwilling to be submissive sexually and so is rejected by him. She can be interpreted as the untameable force of female sexuality being chased away by emerging patriarchal power. Justice is surely offended by the oppression and enslavement of half of the human race by the other half. Bringing the world back into balance will require the reacceptance of female power and sexuality, as represented by Lilith, the indomitable woman.”

The Wheel of Fortune

The Wheel of Fortune….I originally named this card Fate but then reverted to the traditional title because I didn’t see the point in confusing people. Its still all about Amor Fati to me.
Fate seems to be seen by so many people as utterly preordained, and while a lot of it is, there is plenty we can influence ourselves. The whole question of Fate is “to what extent are we the authors of our own destiny?”
The conscious mind is often like a passenger in our lives, limited to complaining and commenting, and at best enjoying the ride. So much of what we experience is engineered by our unconscious faculties, and yet often we don’t realise that. Fate ends up being other peoples fault, or the “worlds” fault. We just can’t see our own hand in it.
There is however a certain point in life where you either take the wheel in hand and become a driver, or submit completely to outside authority. Power is responsibility and also responsibility is power.

The Hermit

Turning inward to contemplate the Butterfly of becoming. We do not find ourselves, we create ourselves. This Hermit is the antidote to my hastiness. Trying to harness some of the Virgo energy to revise my book. Venus is retrograding effectively till early October, so I am considering a late October launch date…possibly the 22nd because its my mums birthday. And in a way this deck is a present for her.
